Home Studio Addition : Alesis SR-16
So the drum machine I ordered came today. I know I could have gotten a software one or a tracker on my computer, but those are a bitch to program and never have quite a realistic feeling for me, unless you want to tweak every single sound sample to perfection. This thing has some sort of dynamizer or something that basically adjusts the timbre and stuff of notes so that it has a more realistic feeling, as well as a sensitivity thing where the harder you press the pads the harder the sounds play. Plus I can also record and play things in realtime, allowing me to actually have a realistic feel to anything I create.
For $150 its not bad. Sounds nice, the preset patterns are nicely done, as well as the preset drum samples, and its a lot more compact than lugging around my computer or even my laptop. I figure I'll use it for a more complete metronome when I play bass or guitar and to let me test out what kind of beats or rythyms would work with songs I write. I've only messed around with it for about an hour today and I think I know how to work pretty much all of it except the midi input/output stuff.
Theoretically I now have all the equipment with me in Davis to do a one man band. I got my several guitars (Acoustic, Electric, Classical), my bass, my amp, my drum machine, my microphone, and Cool Edit Pro version 2.
