So this year I'm determined not to let my allergies ruin my life and dictate when I can go outside or do things such as sleep. I've been reading up online and have taken a couple of steps to at least make my apartment better such as keeping the windows shut and vacuuming more often. As for the going outside part, I've started keeping a journal of sorts of what drugs work and which ones don't. I've got quite a list going of things I've tried which basically haven't worked.
Loratidine
Clemastine
Pseudoephedrine
Dexbrompheniramine
Diphenhydramine
Now if someone says "You should try Claritin, or Benadryl" they should read the above list, since the active ingredient in that is already listed. It amazes me how some people seem to think that a name brand drug in a shiny box for $20 works better than the same generic drug for $5. Doctors always prescribe a generic drug if it is available since these cost less. They have the same active ingredient at the same dosage, and are sometimes even made by the same company.
One drug I've tried does seem to give an immediate effect is Cromulyn Sodium. However it doesn't do much for long, and only helps my nasal symptoms and even then, only if they are mild that day.
I tried some antihistamine eye drops for my eyes as well. They seemed good at first, but I think I got a bad reaction from it as my eye was really bugging me yesterday, so I'm going to probably stop taking it.
I'm want to try a couple other simple OTC (over the counter) drugs next, and if they don't work, I'm going to get the hard Rx stuff such as Cetirizine HCl or Fexofenadine.
