So I went to Santa Cruz today and picked up my old first electric guitar. I plan on restoring it and maybe updating the electronics. So I did some research on the net to see where I could buy a new pickguard for the thing. It turned out that it is really hard for me to find any information at all on my model. Seeing as how I bought it at a flea market I didn't think it was anything special. However, I believe it is sorta rare. I am pretty sure it is a Squire Bullet #1 made in Korea, the year I'm not so sure of, but it is most likely late 80's since I believe they stopped making the Bullet #1 design in the 90's. From what I've been reading on the forums, these are actually nice guitars for the budget brand. The Bullet #1's have really playable necks that were originally a telecaster design, but later were updated to stratocaster designs (like mine). My serial number is E726808 which confirms what I've heard since the 'E' serial numbers were supposed to be good. I think with a little bit of work, I can make it sound pretty sweet. I'm kinda sad to be taking off all the stickers though. I might consider sanding it down to get a more woody swirl instead of the flat "dakota red". However that can wait till much later. First off I need to replace the jacks and the pickguard, while cleaning up the chrome. Later on I might buy a stacked single coil humbucking pickup to try out a more hardcore sound.
Some other side notes on the guitar, it has "aged" color knobs, standard tremolo bridge, Gotoh tuning pegs, and mine in particular has a cutout where the headstock is usually rounded. This actually makes the guitar very individual. However because this has been hand done by the original owner, the guitar will have no vintage resale value. But thats ok since I want it for personal reasons.
