Movie Review : Shaun of the Dead

Shaun of the Dead is basically what you think it is. Its a satire of Zombie movies. However, it pulls it off quite nicely. I'm biased for loving zombie movies, and this one pokes fun at lots of great ones (28 Days Later, Dawn of the Dead, etc...).

I didn't recognize any of the actors in the movie in anything else before with the exception of Bill Nighy from Underworld. However several of the actors are from some British sitcom called Spaced. Which brings me to my next point. This movie is British. However the comedy is not so entirely British as to alienate American audiences.

The plot is great. Shaun is an average guy with no aspirations to anything above getting "munted" at the local pub. His girlfriend doesn't like this, and so, dumps him. His stepfather hates him, and his roommates don't get along. Then one day, zombies come. Hilarity ensues when Shaun doesn't seem to realize that the people are actually zombies. This makes some good points about our own zombie-like culture.

Oh yeah, how can you not love the tagline "A romantic comedy. With zombies."

Bottom Line, I loved it. I will buy the DVD when it comes out.
