I don't want to take much time on Politics, but Tuesday came and went. I voted at the actual polls instead of by mail for the first time, and it was only a block away in a dude's garage with no line. A summary of the stuff:
President: Barack Obama won. If you know me, you'll know I was happy by this.
State Assembly, 1st District, and other offices: Generally people I wanted to win, won. I disagree with them on a couple issues, but they tended to be loads better than the republican candidate in representing my beliefs.
I would like to have voted Green Party, but damn, they need to quit being so angry. For example, Carol Wolman had a bunch of info on impeachment on her site, but just a vague list of things she was for/against that had no real detail. I want to vote for a person not only for what they say they are against/for, but also for how they formulate a conclusion. I want a person which demonstrates they can think.
I think our system is broken. We need something similar to choice voting so that people can vote for who they believe in instead of who is likely to win. That way, our votes can at least count even if we vote for people who would never get elected. Elections are too important to simply vote for the "lesser of two evils."
Props: In general, the props turned out to go OK with a few notable exceptions. Prop 8 passed, which I believe to be a huge blow to civil rights in this country. I think that in 5-10 years, the same type of proposition would not have passed. It will just take time for people to quit being so uptight. Really, marriage for the purposes of government status shouldn't be bothering anybody. If you are religious, then the only real marriage will be blessed by your church and will only be real in the eyes of god anyways. Who cares if its on a piece of paper for the purposes of tax and visitation rights etc? Let others with different beliefs be different.
