So this past tuesday through thursday I traveled to Atlanta Georgia for the IFC's (Interconnect Focus Center's) annual review to present a poster to the people in industry who fund my research.
Overall the trip was pretty cool. I didn't have too much time to do fun stuff since on tuesday we got there late and had to try and get some sleep early to adjust to the 3 hour time difference. Went out for some italian restaurant/bar which was good. I wish we could have stayed there and drank though. The music was pretty awesome.
Wednesday was full of activities for the annual review. Got lots of free food which was nice. I was dissappointed though since Liping said that last year they got bags and T-shirts as well. The overview talks were pretty interesting, and I'm glad the center is taking the focus off of optical interconnect and more to systems level integration of new technologies since that is what my PhD is going to concentrate on. This basically guarantees that I have some funded research that is interesting to industry as well as academia. The poster session went well. Not that many people asked questions, but I was able to answer pretty much everything that was asked.
We met this guy Milnes David from Stanford. He went to Georgia Tech for his undergrad. So on thursday he showed us around Atlanta. We went to the "World of Coke" which is the Coca Cola museum type thing. We also went to Underground Atlanta which was basically a shopping mall. After that we toured Georgia Tech and then went back to the airport to go home.
The trip home was very crappy. Our flight got delayed by an hour, our bags took a long time to be picked up because they couldn't open the cargo door on the plane, and to top it all off, my car battery died.
