Recently I was at the Grand Canyon with mi amigo Michael Robles. What follows are pictures with a little insight to my trip. You'll see I'm not in many photos, due to the fact that I am behind the camera taking pictures.
While there, we ate pretty well. There is nothing like a few beers for breakfast.
As seen below, hiking stuff is dorky, but very functional. I was similarly ashamed. In one picture you can see a mule train coming. I hate mules.
It was extremely cold at night, 20s and 30s. Snow and ice were still on the ground while we were hiking
Cacti always have excited me. I don't know why. Below are some of the many that were there, including a purple variety.
The squirrels there have no fear. One tried to grab my CamelBak's mouthpiece while I was sitting down. We heard tales of them stealing trail mix from people and fighting over them.
Because we got up late, and ate a good breakfast, we missed our chance to get a permit for the backcountry. Being dumb 20 somethings, we hiked about 12 miles roundtrip up and down a few thousand feet to a beautiful lookout point. Below are photos from the rim to where we hiked, and from the point looking back at the rim which we left at noon. In the end we hiked back the last 1.5 miles in the dark. When we got on the shuttle back to the campground at 8:30PM, all the people on the bus stared at us, it was priceless.
The Colorado River.
Our other time was spent just chilling around the campsite and checking out things on the rim. One thing we saw was the Desert View Watchtower and some cool landscape.
Ok, now for what you have all been waiting for, several pictures of a big hole in the ground from different perspectives.
We left the park early due to the news of imminent snow/rain. However we ended up running into some on our way through the Mojave Desert. It was kinda surreal.
