This blog post is about a little underrated sitcom known as NewsRadio. It was on for a few years back in the 90s and contained what apparently was/is, an ensemble cast. It was most notable for having Phil Hartman of SNL fame. However, many of the other actors are also well known, such as Dave Foley from Kids in the Hall, Stephen Root (best known as Milton from Office Space), Maura Tierney who later starred in ER, and Andy Dick.
The show is a half-hour sitcom with each episode being self-contained... pretty common in the 90s. Despite all the physical gag humor, it is primarily pitched to an educated crowd, which makes it a sort of smarter sitcom than most. It has lots of good episodes, but my favorite ones involve the What If? scenarios like, what if News Radio took place on a space station in the future, and what if it took place on the Titanic. Great references to many geeky things while remaining true to the characters.
The show pretty much failed after having its time slot changed 11 times over its 5 season period, and just couldn't make it far after Phil Hartman was murdered, even though they replaced him with Jon Lovitz. Anyways, most of the episodes are available on Hulu, and I recommend you check it out if you are bored.
