Music Review : Hola Amigo! by Nicotine

Ok, I'm running simulations, so I figured I'd do a quick music review. I recently acquired an album from a band called Nicotine from Japan. Apparently from searches on the net they are being promoted as the Japanese NOFX. Not too far off. However, I think I like this band more than NOFX. I never really found NOFX to be that great with the exception of a few songs and their old Ribbed album. Nicotine has a very tight and produced sound like most Japanese rock, but it seems to be lacking a depth to it, it sounds very sterile. The album pretty much keeps pumping from start to finish with a small interlude in the "I wanna be loved by you" song. Although the band is Japanese, they pretty much solely sing in "Engrish." Most regular people would probably say the singing sucks. And they would be correct. But I think that adds to the energy of the stuff.

The best song really is that which I'd heard on a compilation before, "Howie Mobile". Other notables include "Everytime you go away", "Song about a green age", and "Unacceptable Song". This would be good for the punk fan which enjoys the ska guitar, as this band doesn't have any horns or other "annoyances".

Overall, a good listen for background music, but not a necessary album.

6.5 / 10

On another note, I'm going to try and not be as generous as I usually am giving out points in this rating scale. I have yet to find another way to review that would be fun and original, so the 10 point scale it is.
