I'm with the band. That basically sums up my trip to South Lake Tahoe yesterday and today. It all started when Robles joined the band Justifi. Turns out they were playing a gig at Ceasars Tahoe. So Brian wanted to go see them and I decided I'd take a break from my normal weekend activities to show Robles some moral support.
The Band
We got up to Tahoe in the afternoon, met up with Robles, and met the rest of his band. They were pretty much exactly as I pictured a reggae band... dreadlocks, pot, and crazy. By the way, I dig reggae, and they were really good. Whats cool is that the casino gave them 3 free rooms, and some little hook ups.
The Boozing
After settling in, we basically watched Vo gamble, since he was the only one with any money (I'm broke, and Robles was already down $100). So we got complimentary Long Islands. This was only the beginning of a long hard night of partying.
The Snow
Because this was Tahoe, and it is February, we went outside and had a long walk through the snow to get away from cigarette/pot smoke and throw snowballs at each other. This was especially fun since I never got to play in snow growing up in beautiful Santa Cruz. Afterwards, we got some Jamba Juice.
The Preparty
We had an hour to wait to see what the band was doing about dinner, so we went to the bar, played some video poker, and got some more drinks. We ended up going to dinner at the place they were playing at, The Stone St. Bar and Grill. The food was really good. There was a big wait, but a manager type person knew Robles was "in the band," and so hooked us up and seated us. More drinks followed. We went up to the rooms, and Vo took a hit of some pot, then I had to show him how a genuine Santa Cruzan smokes. Even though I don't smoke, I know how to do it from growing up around stoners. So I led by example.
The Show
We headed down to the venue, and we didn't have to pay for the cover since we were on the guestlist. That just felt awesome. They were opening up for Dread Zeppelin which is basically a band that does Led Zeppelin covers in a reggae style. Pretty cool idea. However they turned out to be a bunch of dicks to Justifi so I lost all respect for them. Justifi put on a good show, while me, Vo, and the groupies danced. Many many drinks ensued after the set, since I was intent on getting Robles drunk. The average age of people there seemed pretty intimidating. I was probably the youngest person there after the drummer (who is 20). Most people were late 20s to mid 30s.
The Afterparty
After the show, we basically went around gambling a bit (Brian won some good money playing blackjack), and then went to Club Nero which is a nightclub at the casino. We were able to get in free which is again, awesome. We stayed there till 3:00AM when it closed. All it did was get me horny seeing women dance. At that point, we went back up to the rooms and kinda drank and talked for a while. There was a big hustle and bustle about what room we slept in and what not, so we ended up sleeping on the floor in a room with the band manager who snores like a mother-fucker.
The Aftermath
Ok, here are the raw statistics for the whole event:
12 hours of drunkenness
4 hours of sleep
2 asians
1 redhead
0 people getting laid (quite disappointing)
Now I'm just really partied out and need to sleep.
