Movie Review : Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

This movie had a real weird vibe to it at first. Pretty independent feel, but with big name actors. Thats a good thing. Jim Carrey is really underrated as an actor. Also stars such greats as Kate Winslet, Elijah Wood, and one of my favorite sexy starlets, Kirsten Dunst.

It took me a few scenes to realize that this movie has a Pulp Fiction type structure, in that it showed stuff towards the end first, then went to the beginning, and then back to the end. That said, the plot is has been described as "Total Recall if it were a comedy." This seems a little off the mark, but not quite. The main character wants all of his memories erased of his woman, and the movie explores that idea.

Fans of Charlie Kaufman will rest easy knowing that he co-wrote this and its an overall excellent movie. Although I didn't get the fully emotional connection to some of the characters like in some movies, I did truly understand what was going on in their minds. This is a good example of writing that truly imitates real people as opposed to extraordinary people in most movies.

Bottom line, great movie.
