Boondocks

So I am sitting here at work reading an article in the Sac Bee about the Boondocks comic strip being censored due to some use of the (wait for it) ... (dun dun DUN!) N-WORD!, or nigger for those of you that don't know, and some violence. This guy is being censored because he is satirizing some racial stereotypes. I don't know if any of you have ever read this strip, but it is awesome. Funny couldn't even describe it. Now the actual censored part hasn't really run yet (the majority is on saturday apparently), but does anyone else find it stupid that people are even censoring a comic strip in the first place?

When I was growing up, there were people in my schools that were black, hispanic, asian, as well as white. I never even realized that they were any different from me to begin with. Even getting up higher into high school, I still didn't see much of a big deal about any sort of ethnic/racial difference. Its only when I got into college that people I knew actually started acting different and making remarks towards people of different backgrounds. Now I remember some stuff in high school poking fun at nationalities and other things, but stuff was always in jest there.

I don't really know where I'm going with this, but I think I'm trying to say that when I was younger, race/ethnicity never came into play with anything. Maybe when people quit differentiating people based on skin, everyone will finally look at each other as "humans" and not (insert nationality/race here).

I'm also saying that damn people, take a joke. Lighten up, laughter is the best medicine.

::excellent:: I couldn't have said it better myself. Sure there are people out there who will say stuff like that and really mean it. But a lot of them are obviously joking and need not be taken personally.
